RESOURCE PERSPECTIVES:
A Sampling of Teachings Arranged by Topic

Unity and Separation

A central idea found in the various revelations found at this site is unity--oneness. All of them teach that we are not just children of a loving God, WE ARE God. God has extended Himself/Herself and is experiencing creation through us. Although this idea that we are God is not a new idea--after all, in the New Testament book of John (10:34) the Bible reveals that "we are Gods." Still, it is an idea that has, until recently, been largely ignored in most Western spiritual teachings and practices. And even now many Christians think it means "we are God's" (in the possessive sense) because they find it difficult to believe the statement as written. Fortunately, contemporary revelation focuses much of its attention on helping us to understand the real meaning of these words and to put them into practice.
"Unity is the Truth. Separatism is the illusion."
Conversations With God book 3, p.261
"The human consciousness of insufficiency–of ‘not enoughness'–is the root cause of all worry, all pressure, all competition, all jealousy, all anger, all conflict, and, ultimately, all killing on your planet.

This, plus the human insistence on believing in the separation, rather than the unity, of all things is what has created 90 percent of the misery in your lives, the sadness in your history, and the impotence of your previous efforts to make things better for everyone.

If you would change these two elements of your consciousness, everything would shift."
Conversations With God book 3, p.312

"...in essence the thought framework
Upon which the ego is based
Is separation.
The whole purpose for creating an ego in the first place
Was to attempt to gain some measure of experience
Of what it would be like to be separate.

And so long as you believe in the ego, which is to believe
That your thoughts about who you are are real,
Of that those thoughts have any consequence whatsoever--
As long as you believe either of those--
You are substantiating and supporting
The thought system of separation.

Separation, above all, cannot exist.
For the reality of God is Oneness.
And nothing exists except that which God has created,
And fully extended Himself into.
So there is not only nothing which is not OF GOD,
There is nothing which IS NOT God Itself."
The Other Voice p.84

"Eventually, all of illusion, all of this world,
All of space and time, will pass away.
Indeed, it is not exact to say that they will pass away.
They will be reinterpreted; they will come to be known;
They will be understood in a manner which makes them
Compatible with your real Self, and with truth.

This you cannot do of yourself.
The reason for that is that you, in order to come here,
Structured a part of your mind in such a way
That it truly believes that you are what you are not--
That you are separate, that you are isolated,
That you are alone, that you can be ill, that you can die--
And the list goes on.

However, deep within you lies the truth of what you are.
And it knows that illusion is illusion.
For there always exists within your mind
The idea whose purpose is to guarantee that,
Eventually in your time,
All of your thoughts will be reinterpreted, restructured,
To again become One with the real part of your mind.
And that idea which shall bring you back
To the awareness of your reality is, as I have said,
The Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit, the idea of your Oneness,
Is the bridge between the split parts of your mind,
And was placed there by God (and therefore, by You).
Were it not so you could have imagined yourself separate,
And remained that way forever."
The Other Voice p.100

The idea that we are One Spirit in many bodies is found in most modern works, but perhaps no where is it explained so eloquently as in book three of Conversations With God (pp. 177-181). There, God has been discussing the soul and Divine Dichotomy with Neale Donald Walsch. The conversation continues:

"Here's how the dichotomy works: You've just had it explained to you that there is no separation between souls. The soul is the energy of life that exists within and around (as the aura of) all physical objects. In a sense, it is that which is 'holding' all physical objects in place. The 'Soul of God' holds in the universe, the 'soul of man' holds in each individual human body.

[Neal Donald Walsh] The body is not a container, a ‘housing,' for the soul; the soul is a container for the body.

[God] That's right.

[NDW] Yet there is no ‘dividing line' between souls--there is no place where ‘one soul' ends and ‘another' begins. And so, it is really one soul holding all bodies.

[God] Correct.

[NDW] Yet the one soul ‘feels like' a bunch of individual souls.

[God] Indeed it does--indeed I do--by design.

[NDW] Can You explain how it works?

[God] Yes.
While there is no actual separation between souls, it is true that the stuff of which the One Soul is made manifests in physical reality at different speeds, producing different degrees of density.

[NDW] Different speeds? When did speed come in?

[God] All of life is a vibration. That which you call life (you could just as easily call it God) is pure energy. That energy is vibrating constantly, always. It is moving in waves. The waves vibrate at different speeds, producing differing degrees of density, or light. This, in turn, produces what you would call different ‘effects' in the physical world--actually, different physical objects. Yet while the objects are different and discreet, the energy which produces them is exactly the same.
Let me go back to the example that you used of the air between your living room and dining room. It was a good use of imagery that just popped right out of you. An inspiration.

[NDW] From guess where.

[God] Yes, I gave it to you. Now you said that there was no specific place between those two physical locations where the ‘air of the living room' stopped and the ‘air of the dining room' began. And that is true. Yet there is a place where the ‘air of the living room' becomes less dense. That is, it dissipates, becomes ‘thinner.' So, too, the ‘air of the dining room.' The further from the dining room you go, the less you smell dinner!
Now the air in the house is the same air. There is no ‘separate air' in the dining room. Yet the air in the dining room sure seems like ‘other air.' For one thing, it smells different!
So because the air has taken on different characteristics, it seems as though it is different air. But it is not. It is all the same air, seeming different. In the living room you smell the fireplace, in the dining room you smell dinner. You might even go into one room and say, ‘Whew, it's stuffy. Let's get some air in here,' as if there was no air at all. And yet, of course, there's plenty of air. What you are wanting to do is change its characteristics.
So you bring in some air from the outside. Yet that is the same air, too. There is only one air, moving in, around, and through everything.

[NDW] This is cool. I totally ‘get' this. I love the way You explain the universe to me in ways I can totally ‘get.'

[God] Well, thank you. I'm trying here. So let Me go on.

[NDW] Please.

[God] Like the air in your house, the energy of life–what we'll call the ‘Soul of God'–takes on different characteristics as it surrounds different physical objects. Indeed, that energy coalesces in a particular way to form those objects.
As particles of energy join together to form physical matter, they become very concentrated. Mashed up. Pushed together. They begin to ‘look like,' even ‘feel like,' distinct units. That is, they begin to seem ‘separate,' ‘different,' from all the other energy. Yet this is all the same energy, behaving differently.
It is this very act of behaving differently which makes it possible for That Which Is All to manifest as That Which Is Many.      As I explain in Book 1, That Which Is could not experience Itself as What It is until It developed this ability to differentiate. So That Which Is All separated into That Which Is This, and That Which is That. (I'm trying to make this very simple now.)
The ‘clumps of energy' which coalesced into discreet units that held in physical beings are what you have chosen to call ‘souls.' The parts of Me that have become the lot of You are what We are talking about here. Thus, the Divine Dichotomy:
There is only One of us.
     There are Many of us.
     ....
Now as energy coalesces, it becomes, as I said, very concentrated. But the further one moves from the point of this concentration, the more dissipated the energy becomes. The ‘air becomes thinner.' The aura fades. The energy never completely disappears, because it cannot. It is the stuff of which everything is made. It's All There Is. Yet it can become very, very thin, very subtle–almost ‘not there.'
Then, in another place (read that, another part of Itself) it can again coalesce, once more ‘clumping together' to form what you call matter, and what ‘looks like' a discreet unit. Now the two units appear separate from each other, and in truth there is no separation at all.
This is, in very, very simple and elementary terms, the explanation behind the whole physical universe.

[NDW] Wow. But can it be true? How do I know I haven't just made this all up?

[God] Your scientists are already discovering that the building blocks of all life are the same.
They brought back rocks from the moon and found the same stuff they find in trees. They take apart a tree and find the same stuff they find in you.
I tell you this: We are all the same stuff.
We are all the same energy, coalesced, compressed in different ways to create different forms and different matter.
Nothing ‘matters' in and of itself. That is, nothing can become matter all by itself. Jesus said, ‘Without the Father, I am nothing.' The Father of all is pure thought. This is the energy of life. This is what you have chosen to call Absolute Love. This is the God and the Goddess, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. It is the All-in-All, the Unmoved Mover, the Prime Source. It is that which you have sought to understand from the beginning of time. The Great Mystery, the Endless Enigma, the eternal truth.
There is only One of Us, and so, it is THAT WHICH YOU ARE."

The Inner Voice -- Making Contact

"The presence of God is within you always–
As a sense, as an urging, as an awareness,
Sometimes as an unrest, sometimes as a fullness,
Sometimes as a thought,
Sometimes as a Voice that speaks words.
BUT IT IS THERE, ALWAYS.
And you cannot separate your Self from it.

You can imagine this Voice to be but your own thoughts,
And try to isolate yourself from it.
But "trying" is all it will be.
For separation between you and the Voice of God cannot be.

I have spoken of this Voice as the Holy Spirit.
It is, in truth, the presence of God within you.
And you will learn to feel its presence,
To know that It is the Voice of God,
To understand the difference between that Voice
And the voice of your ego.
All of this you will come to know.

On that day you will become, even in your imaginings,
Perfectly safe and perfectly calm.
You will perceive truly
That you are sustained by the Love of God,
That there is nothing to fear,
That the strength of God knows every detail of every situation.
You will realize that when you live and think and act
According to the presence of God within you,
Then the expression of your individuality, as a Son of God,
Will be complete, will be safe,
And will be totally harmonious with All That Is.
Just as God Himself is in perfect harmony with All That Is.

For this moment, do not worry about how you will
Know the difference between that Voice and your ego.
Simply try to feel within that "There is nothing to fear."
Feel within that the Voice of God is there,
And will not, and cannot, leave.
Feel, if you can , with great confidence,
That you are sustained by the Love of God,
Protected by the strength of God,
And that you WILL see with the Light that is God."
Journey Beyond Words page 59 of a chapter entitled: "The Love of God"

The following is excerpted from an interview of Conversations With God author Neal Donald Walsh conducted by Kathy Close entitled: Beginning A Dialog With the Divine. To read the complete interview go to http://conversationswithgod.org/interview.htm

Kathy: As the author of Conversations With God, do you ask Him questions about your everyday life on a regular basis?

Neale: Well, we all are in communication with God on an everyday basis. It is not just because I am the author of Conversations With God that I can talk to Him. As human beings we all are speaking with Him, every moment of our lives, everyday of the week, every week of the year. Each of us is having our own personal conversations with God. It's just that some of us don't know it.

Kathy: What is something a person could do to tune into God a little bit more?

Neale: Well, there's a three-step process that I've come up with. The first step is to admit the possibility that such a conversations could even take place: acknowledging that it's possible. Believe me, that's a huge step for many people. Millions of people around the world are not ready to acknowledge or notice such a communication with Spirit.
The Second step is to be willing for it to happen – to step away from fear and then move into a place of willingness for such a thing to occur.
The third step is the hardest, overcoming our feelings of unworthiness. This is the greatest difficulty that human beings face. It's hard to rid ourselves of feeling unworthy to talk to God. Absolutely, this is the toughest obstacle between people and all that they desire. This feeling blocks our communication with the Divine and every other good thing in life.
Once we get that we are worthy enough to be spoken to directly by God, then we will be able to notice that we have always been in conversation with God. It's just now that we are hearing the communication.

And from p. 445 of The Urantia Book:
"Mortals represent the last link in the chain of those beings who are called sons of God. The personal touch of the Original and Eternal Son passes on down through a series of decreasingly divine and increasingly human personalizations until there arrives a being much like yourselves, one you can see, hear, and touch. And then you are made spiritually aware of the great truth which your faith may grasp -- sonship with the eternal God!

Likewise does the Original and Infinite Spirit, by a long series of decreasingly divine and increasingly human orders, draw nearer and nearer to the struggling creatures of the realms, reaching the limit of expression in the angels -- than whom you were created but a little lower -- who personally guard and guide you in the life journey of the mortal career of time.

God the Father does not, cannot, thus downstep himself to make such near personal contact with the almost limitless number of ascending creatures throughout the universe of universes. But the Father is not deprived of personal contact with his lowly creatures; you are not without the divine presence. Although God the Father cannot be with you by direct personality manifestation, he is in you and of you in the identity of the indwelling Thought Adjusters, the divine Monitors. Thus does the Father, who is the farthest from you in personality and in spirit, draw the nearest to you in the personality circuit and in the spirit touch of inner communion with the very souls of his mortal sons and daughters."

Love

"Love is the ancestor of all spiritual goodness, the essence of the true and the beautiful."
The Urantia Book p. 2047
"True, or unconditional love is unaware of the strange demands you impose on your relationships. Love is the same for all. Your attempts to reserve love for specific relationships and then withhold it from others is the very things that has blocked your vision of love's presence. Give as love gives–just as the sun that gives its light to all who ask, or the sparrow that sings not for the one who listens, but for the song itself. When you give love, love is your reward. When you judge some people as worthy of your giving and other people as undeserving, then it is you who is undeserving; not because you have been judged by love but because you have forgotten love's law.

"You, in your essence, are the fountain of unconditional love. The water you give refreshes the whole universe, for you are not separate from one part of the universe but are intimately linked to all. Let your gift be free, then. Let it flow from you and wash over all those you see, all those who cross your path. Do not think that you cannot still have relationships that are more involved than others. Involvement has nothing to do with love. There will always be those in your life with whom you share the deeper pulse of your thoughts and those whom you do not. But the love you give is the same for each of them. It is but the recognition of the very same life of which you are continually reborn.

"Love is a knowing; a pure understanding. It knows that all things are whole, regardless of their appearance or delusion, and it gives of itself wholly, without judgment, without recognizing the difference between this relationship or that. It understands that there is only one real relationship and it is the one we all share, the Self that is beyond the thought or the idea of love, the holy encounter of life with life. The secret of unconditional love is that we are all the same, holy beyond imagination. This is what the release of fear reveals. This is what you are all looking for. And this is what you will find when you open your heart to every element of creation."
Emissary of Light, by James F. Twyman pp.180-181

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false. Every illusion is one of fear, whatever form it takes. And the attempt to escape from one illusion into another must fail. If you seek love outside yourself you can be certain that you perceive hatred within, and are afraid of it. Yet peace will never come from the illusion of love, but only from its reality.
A Course In Miracles, TEXT, p. 338
And from Conversations With God book 1, pp. 130-131 "...I tell you this: at the critical juncture in all human relationships, there is only one question:

What would love do now?

No other question is relevant, no other question is meaningful, no other question has any importance to your soul.

Now we come upon a very delicate point of interpretation, for this principle of love-sponsored action has been widely misunderstood–and it is this misunderstanding which has led to the resentments and angers of life–which, in turn, have caused so many to stray from the path.

For centuries you have been taught that love-sponsored action arises out of the choice to be, do, and have whatever produces the highest good for another.

Yet I tell you this: the highest choice is that which produces the highest good for you.

As with all profound spiritual truth, this statement opens itself to immediate misinterpretation. The mystery clears a bit the moment one decides what is the highest ‘good' one could do for oneself. And when the absolute highest choice is made, the mystery dissolves, the circle completes itself, and the highest good for you becomes the highest good for another.

It may takes lifetimes to understand this–and even more lifetimes to implement–for this truth revolves around an even greater one: What you do for your Self, you do for another. What you do for another, you do for the Self.
This is because you and the other are one.
     And this is because...
     There is naught but You.
All the Masters who have walked your planet have taught this. ("Verily, verily, I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me.") Yet this has remained for most people merely a grand esoteric truth, with little practical application. In fact, it is the most practically applicable ‘esoteric' truth of all time."

From The Urantia Book p. 2076
"We find God through the leadings of spiritual insight, but we approach this insight of the soul through the love of the beautiful, the pursuit of truth, loyalty to duty, and the worship of divine goodness. But of all these values, love is the true guide to real insight."

And from Friendship with God pp. 169-70
"When you love someone, you grant them total freedom to be who they are, for this is the greatest gift you could give them, and love always gives the greatest gift.
It is the gift that I give you, yet you cannot imagine that I am giving it to you, because you cannot imagine a love so great. So you have decided that I must have given you the freedom to do only the things that I want you to do.
Yes, your religions say that I give you the freedom to do anything, to make any choice you wish. Yet I ask you again: if I torture you endlessly and damn you eternally for making a choice I did not want you to make, have I made you free? No. I have made you able. You are able to make whatever choice you wish, but you are not free to. Not if you care about the outcome. And, of course, all of you do.
So this is how you've got it constructed: if I'm to grant you your reward in heaven, I expect you to do things My way. And this you call God's love. Then, you hold each other in the same place of expectation, and you call this love. Yet it is not love, in either case, for love expects nothing save what freedom provides, and freedom knows nothing of expectation.
When you do not require a person to show up as you imagine you need them to be, then you can drop expectation. Expectation goes out the window. Then you love them exactly as they are. Yet this can only happen when you love your Self exactly as you are. And that can only happen when you love Me exactly as I am.
In order to do that, you must know Me as I am, not as you have imagined Me to be.
That is why the first step in having a friendship with God is to know God, the second step is to trust the God that you know, and the third step is to love the God that you know and trust. You do that by treating God as someone you know and trust.

Fear

The resources recommended by the Center all seek to help us eliminate fear by replacing it with love--as opposed to the traditional Western spiritual practice of using fear as a lever to force us to "be good."

"All human actions are motivated at their deepest level by one of two emotions--fear or love."
Conversations With God book 1, p.15
"The happy and effective person is motivated, not by fear of wrongdoing, but by love of right doing."
The Urantia Book p.1572
"There is no room in us for fear today, for we have welcomed love into our hearts."
A Course In Miracles, WORKBOOK p.454
"...fear is the very antithesis of trust in the Father."
The Center Within p.117
"Never are there barriers between
the forms of the Son and His Holy Father.
All such barriers are but reflections of just one Thought:
'I am separate, I am alone.'
With this is born Fear,
and the Son withdraws into but
a point of the Light which alone
He is."
The Jeshua Letters p.160
"When fear is taken from you, all else can be taken from you and you will not be angry. You know inwardly, intuitively, that everything you've created can be created again, or--more importantly--that it doesn't matter."
Conversations With God book 2, p.152
"So take the lesson that says, 'there is nothing to fear,' [ACIM lesson 48]
And insofar as you are still locked within
Your thoughts and your imaginings,
Say to yourself,
'God is within me. God Himself is within my being.
God's strength, God's Love,
And the Light with which I will see,
Are deep within me.
They will never leave.
And I, in all the power of my imaginings,
Cannot make it go away.
Truly, there is nothing to fear.'"
Journey Beyond Words p.58
[NDW]"And I should fear nothing?" [God] "Fear and caution are two different things. Be cautious--be conscious--but do not be fearful. For fear only paralyzes, while consciousness mobilizes. Be mobilized, not paralyzed."
Conversations With God book 3, p.5
"...if you would escape from fear,
If you would live a life of perfect peace and harmony,
Of Oneness and perfect calmness...
All you need do is release your fear.
And all you need do to accomplish that
Is to realize that the absence of fear Lies in the present moment."
The Other Voice p.339
"Life experiences are complicated accidents and delightful adventures when fear is absent." Teaching Mission transcript, the teacher Aflana

Time

"Think for a moment about your pain, and about your fear.
Essentially all of your pain, and all of your fear,
Is because you value time.

Ultimately what you are doing, is saying
I do not choose to value what I am experiencing in this moment;
I rather will value that which I call a memory of the past,
Or more usually, that which I anticipate will be the future.
Essentially, all of the time when you bind, or constrict, yourself,
It is because of some imagined fear
Of what your future will bring."
Journey Beyond Words p.160

"You must live in the present; you must at all times live in the present. Try not to think so far ahead in your dealing with the people you encounter. Try to pay attention--now--to the messages that they are communicating to you --now--through their postures, their facial expressions, the things they say, and the peculiar words they use. You must experience the present before you can reach the future. This is one of the life lessons that must be learned solidly by the creatures of your order. The joy of life, the experience of love, the satisfaction and respect from living in the light of the Father, your children, family members, and workmates, must all be experienced in the present; it is not for the future.

For creatures of your order, the future is the domain of plans; you, like us, are working toward the fulfillment of those plans. However, no matter how sophisticated and refined your prospect for the future may be, your vision is not great enough to encompass the things that will actually happen.

You cannot spare yourselves this lesson. You must live your life in the present. The present is a tool; you must learn to use it. Wield it effectively, and you will begin to learn to use the present and live in the present, by remaining alert to opportunities that offer themselves. You cannot come up with a plan that can effectively deal with these opportunities. Yet by practicing in a spontaneous fashion the technique of dealing forthrightly with any person you are engaged with--as if the Master were standing by your side--you are displaying to him the depth and breadth of your understanding of his teachings. Try to do so as a pure conduit, allowing heavenly power to flow through you untempered, unchanged, and unrestricted, and pass to your companions. Do these things without self-effacement or attempts at levity, and without in any way diminishing the importance of what is occurring.

Open your eyes. Your hearts are prepared to be open. Pay attention. Remain alert. When you sleep, sleep. When you are awake, be awake. Opportunity is all around you. time is wasting. We have work to do. you do too, and you know it."
The Center Within pp.154-155

"Your time is divided into past, present, and future. Could this not be the same as subconscious, conscious, and superconscious?"
Conversations With God book 1, p.73
"Things are time conditioned, but truth is timeless."
The Urantia Book p. 1297

The Relationship Between TRADITIONAL and MODERN Spiritual Texts

The resources spotlighted at this site have been given to us to enhance, rather than replace, the great wisdom of traditional texts. As examples of how these modern teachings add to and reinforce traditional spiritual knowledge consider the following:
"The Bible Repeatedly states that you should praise God. This hardly means that you should tell Him how wonderful He is. He has no ego with which to accept such praise, and no perception with which to judge it. But unless you take your part in the creation, His joy in not complete because yours is incomplete. And this He does know. He knows it in His Own Being and its experience of His Son's experience. The constant going out of His Love is blocked when His channels are closed, and He is lonely when the minds He created do not communicate fully with Him."
A Course In Miracles, TEXT pp.70-71

From The Urantia Book's description (p.1389) of the fifteenth year of the life of Jesus, a story that conveys the importance of praying from the heart rather than from memory:
"During this year Jesus first formulated the prayer which he subsequently taught to his apostles, and which to many has become known as 'The Lord's Prayer.' In a way it was an evolution of the family alter: they had many forms of praise and several formal prayers. After his father's death Jesus tried to teach the older children to express themselves individually in prayer--much as he so enjoyed doing--but they could not grasp his thought and would invariably fall back upon their memorized prayer forms. It was in this effort to stimulate his older brothers and sister to say individual prayers that Jesus would endeavor to lead them along by suggestive phrases, and presently, without intention on his part, it developed that they were all using a form of prayer which was largely built up from these suggestive lines which Jesus had taught them.
At last Jesus gave up the idea of having each member of the family formulate spontaneous prayers, and one evening in October he sat down by the little squat lamp on the low stone table, and, on a piece of smooth cedar board about eighteen inches square, with a piece of charcoal he wrote out the prayer which became from that time on the standard family petition."
And from Conversations With God book 3, pp.182-183 this familiar idea:
[NDW] "...Whatever you want to experience in yourself, You have said, be the source of it in the lives of others."

[God] "Yes. This is the great secret. This is the sacred wisdom. Do unto others as you would have it done unto you.
All of your problems, all of your conflicts, all of your difficulties in creating a life on your planet of peace and joy are based in your failure to understand this simple instruction, and to follow it."
